Samsung L760 (SGH-L760)At first glance, the Samsung L760 looks like a case of Y.A.S.S. - or Yet Another Samsung Slider. And yes, in purely hardware terms the SGH-L760 comes with nothing that we haven't seen before.

However, the clever parts of the Samsung L760 are in software. Designed as a bloggers phone, the comes with an RSS reader and tools to upload content directly to providers such as YouTube and Buzznet. It's the first "L" series handset we've seen, so we don't know for sure if this designation will be used for "blogging phones" in the future.

We don't know how good the software is on the SGH-L760 in practice, but the promised ease-of-use with services such as YouTube could well be compelling for those who like to generate and share their own content, and a far easier way to do it than transferring files to a PC, converting and then uploading them.

The hardware on the Samsung L760 is pretty straightforward - it's a 3G UMTS phone with a two megapixel digital camera, video calling, a 240x320 pixel TFT screen in 262,000 colours, Bluetooth 2.0, microSD expandable memory, a multimedia player and FM radio. It's reasonably lightweight and slim for a 3G phone at 93 grams and 100 x 47 x 15mm in size.

Unfortunately, we think that the SGH-L760 is missing something.. this would be an ideal handset to supply with HSDPA (3.5G) data rather than plain old UMTS. YouTube users may be frustrated by the maximum 384Kbps download and 128Kbps upload speeds.. a figure that is several times faster with HSDPA. This would have made it an ideal driver to bring customers to new 3.5G networks.

Still, if you want to share the content you've made on your mobile phone and you have a call plan that allows you to use lots of data, then the Samsung L760 looks very interesting.

Samsung say that the SGH-L760 should be available in Germany from July 2007, followed by other European and Asia-Pacific countries. No pricing information was available at the time of going to press.
